Classroom Manners
Beginning of the year information
Manners are very important in our classroom. I have high expectations for the students and hold each student accountable for their manners throughout the school day. This is not anything that they are not capable of doing.
Every day students begin their day on green. If students require more than 3 reminders to use their manners, they will be asked to move their stick to yellow. If there continues to be interrupting behaviors, another 3 warnings are given. They will then be asked to move their stick to red. Students that end the day on yellow or red will be asked to sit and think about their choices during centers. At the end of the day, students that are on green and will collect a penny (pennies). Students will also earn pennies throughout the day when they are caught using their manners. Students may use these pennies to "purchase" rewards. These can include a trip to the classroom treasure chest, extra centers time or special center item, lunch with the teacher, or something that they may think about that is reasonable. We will move on to different coins and combinations as the year progresses. We know how important it is to learn about spending and saving :>)
Students will also be completing a behavior chart at the end of each day. This will begin in October. This chart is located in their take home folder. They will color their day the color that they end on. For example, if they are green they will color it green. If they are yellow or red they will color it the needed color. If your child ends the day on yellow or red, you will know why. At the bottom of the calendar is a list of behaviors. I will mark the calendar with the corresponding number of the behavior(s) that needed to addressed. It generally takes one yellow and/or red day for them to realize that it is not cool to be sitting and watching others play.
If you have any questions about your child's behavior calendar, please let me know.
